HiRES lab is actively recruiting undergraduate students to work on exciting projects. Multi-time period commitments are preferred (e.g. Summer and Fall). Most students work for credit: lab-funded paid positions are usually reserved for those who cannot afford not to do paid work, although pay is also possible for exceptional upperclassman. University-sponsored paid positions are typicall available through URaCE, there are opportunities to work in our lab for 10 weeks during summer through HiRES collaborators (BIP Consortium). Please contact Dr. VP for further details. Students may also be recruited as grad students/visiting scholars.
How you can make an impact: A wide variety of experience is welcome in our lab, including apparatus design and testing, data analysis, programming, running experiments, technical writing, patent development, data visualization, and mathematical modeling. Role in your success: Dr. VP finds opportunities for students to be coauthors on conference and journal papers. He promotes undergrads to present at conferences. To ensure their success, Dr. VP will write recommendation letters, and long-term career advice. Past undergrads have received awards from their work and presented at APS DFD and BIP Annual Summer conferences.
HiRES lab is actively recruiting graduate students for funded research opportunities.
We are looking for motivated students with a proactive mindset and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is preferred. Experience in technical writing, programming, and/or hands-on experimental research is a plus. New positions include all areas mentioned on the research page.
Role in your success: Dr. VP provides mentorship throughout your time in the lab through regular one-on-one meetings and guidance in conducting high-fidelity simulations, developing reduced-order models, and flow measurement using cutting-edge experimental techniques such as PIV. Students will be supported in pursuing impactful scientific publications, presenting their work at leading conferences, and developing a strong professional presence all while solving challenging problems in energy resilience, sustainability, and next-generation urban environments.
